SWITZERLAND
World Cup participations: 7
Greatest World Cup achievement: quarter-finals (1934, 1938, 1954)
Switzerland is at the world cup after a thrilling play-off
against turkey, but what not many keep in mind:
if they had not scored the winning goal against Cyprus in
the 88th minute, Switzerland would have not even been in the play-off.
Nevertheless respectable that Switzerland has qualified again
after Euro 2004 for a big tournament.
The Swiss also have some class players in their ranks - midfielder
captain Johann Vogel of AC Milan, Arsenal's defender Senderos
or the strikers Alexandre Frei of Rennes and Behrami of Lazio Rome
for example.
In total Switzerland has a very young team playing fast and technically strong.
Youth has the disadvantage of missing experience, but the play-off against Turkey
has been a chalybeate bath.
The match against South Korea will decide about promotion to the round of the last 16
and that is completely open.
The odds on Switzerland as world cup winner were certainly very high
- 126.0 at Betandwin.
For a bet on group winner Switzerland you get 5.50.
For a bet on Switzerland reaching the last 16 you get 1.80.
